Abstract
This project began with research conducted on ancient Mycenaean culture and pottery. Replicas of a variety of ancient domestic pottery forms were built based on careful study and the process was documented. These Mycenaean pottery forms were then used as the basis for the creation and documentation of contemporary ceramic art using postmodern theory. Connections between ancient Greek culture and contemporary American society are suggested through their relationship; these connections involve the origins of democracy and recent studies on whiteness, which is a growing study on the nature of white privileging in American society. The art forms pose questions regarding undercurrents of contemporary moral tensions which may have their origins in ancient Greek culture.
