Abstract
This thesis addresses the qualitative benefits of arts education in museums in New York City. I examine the history of arts education in schools and the four prominent museums in New York City: The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Solomon R. Guggenheim, and include case studies I conducted in museum teacher-training and teen programs. Within these programs, the leading teaching strategies are inquiry-based, experiential, and discipline-based learning.
