Abstract:
Middle Eastern art market has started to grow since mid-2000s when auction houses started holding Middle Eastern art sales in cities such as Dubai. There was a significant boost in the Middle Eastern art sales in 2008 for Iranian artists and substantial prices hike were launched, which drew global attention. Even though prices decreased after that boom, demand for this market has rapidly increased and locals have started collecting art works more than ever. Nowadays it seems that Iranian collectors are playing a significant role in the art market. Also there are numerous art galleries, which are active inside and outside of Iran with the aim of promoting Iranian artists. Moreover, Tehran Auction began holding annual auction sales since four years ago, and is still the only auction house in Iran. This thesis examines the Iranian art market post-2008 in different art platforms and explains the importance of each platform.
