Abstract:
Patterns of Islam and Buddhism: A Comparative Study correlates and contrasts symbols found in Islamic and Buddhist weavings within the context of their function as repositories of Aldous Huxley's Philosophia Perennis. The history and beliefs, artistic representations, and samplings of perennial philosophy as found in both traditions are examined to substantiate the claim that translations of Divine experience into religious weavings allows the informed historian, artist, and religious scholar to circumvent obvious exoteric (external) differences found in Islam and Buddhism, and delve directly into the commonality of esoteric (mystical) teachings personified by these symbols.
